You can read every article on this site without giving me anything at all. There is no login, no profile, and nothing you have to agree to first.
The occasional note
There is a signup box on the front page. It opens your own mail program and sends a message to me, which means the only thing that ever reaches me is the email address you chose to send from, and it lands in my ordinary inbox rather than in a marketing platform. I keep those addresses in a simple list, use them for one short note every few weeks, and nothing else. Reply with the word stop, or write to [email protected], and you come off the list that week. It is never sold, rented, swapped or handed to anyone.
What is measured
Anonymized traffic data may be collected: which pages get opened, roughly which country or region a visit came from, the type of device and browser, and the page that linked here. I use it to see which pieces are worth writing more of. It is not tied to a name and I do not attempt to identify individual readers.
Email you send me
If you write to me, your message and your address stay in my mailbox while I reply and afterwards as a record of any correction that came out of it. They do not go anywhere else.
Cookies
The site sets a small number of cookies for basic function and anonymous measurement. Blocking or clearing them in your browser breaks nothing here.
Links out
Some outbound links are affiliate links, explained in the affiliate disclosure. Once you click through to a retailer or an affiliate network, their privacy practices apply and I have no control over them. Photographs are served from this site rather than embedded from elsewhere.
Children
This is written for adults and is not aimed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your rights
I do not sell personal information, and there is very little of it to sell. If you are in California, the EU, or anywhere with comparable rules and you want to know what is held or want it deleted, email [email protected]. It reaches me, not a department.
